Die britischen Post-Punks von Yard Act veröffentlichen heute ihre neue Single "Dark Days" von einer gleichnamigen EP, die alle vier bisher erschienenen Singles beinhaltet. Beide Releases erscheinen auf Memphis Industries.

Die Post-Punks Yard Act aus Leeds stellen Dark Days vor, die vierte und letzte ihrer "Lockdown-Singles" vor. Eine gleichnamige EP, die alle Singles enthalten wird erscheint ebenfalls am 19. Januar.

Wie von Yard Act gewohnt gibt es einen bissigen Sozialkommentar von Sänger James Smith, dazu ausgefallene Gitarren und treibende Rhythmen. Die Single markiert das Ende eines Abschnitts für die Band - die Aufnahmen ihres Debütalbums werden in naher Zukunft beginnen. Smith über den Entstehungsprozess:

"With Dark Days I wrote the first verse and chorus hook really quickly (with a little help from Q-Tip obviously). The demo Ryan sent was ace; the drums were really driven but the bassline felt like it was suspended mid-air in the verses like a dub bassline. It created this illusion that you have time to stop and look around amidst the ensuing chaos. It's like in war films when all the noise stops and you just hear the protagonist's heavy breathing whilst they survey their surroundings in slow motion. Then the chorus hits with this 'Captain Caveman' vibe and it reminded me of that stop-motion cartoon from the 90s 'GOG S', if anyone remembers that...The concept of devolution feels more valid by the day - the idea of going back to the 'dark days' of cartoon caveman music was funny to me at least. The second verse came later after watching 'Children of Men' for the first time in years. I couldn't fully remember it but I came away feeling really uplifted by the ending. That idea that there's always hope until the final moment, the uncertainty of 'it is' or 'it isn't', that's what drives us. There's hope in this song, a happy ending of sorts, even though fate and circumstance depict the outcome, there's still hope. Not for 'Carboot man' though, he's a goner -'Ministry of Love' vibes."

Yard Act wurde 2019 gegründet als die Freunde Ryan Needham (Bass) und James Smith (Gesang) begannen, minimalistische Rock-Tracks mit einer primitiven Drum-Machine und einer geliehenen Bassgitarre zu kreieren. Mit Sammy Robinson an der Gitarre und George Townend am Schlagzeug, die sie in ihrem geistigen Zuhause, dem Brudenell Social Club, kennenlernten, kamen die beiden sofort ins Gespräch und spielten innerhalb eines Monats ihre erste Show.

Die erste Single The Trapper's Pelts erschien im April ein und erwies sich als sofortiger Hit mit Features bei NME, DIY, So Young, The Line Of Best Fit, Dork und Gigwise sowie Brooklyn Vegan in den USA.
